Thermory is an Estonian manufacturer specializing in thermally modified wood – thermowood – and its use in saunas, steam baths, and interiors with high demands on humidity and temperature. Thermal modification of wood without chemicals, using only hot steam in an autoclave, changes the cell structure to such an extent that the material stops reacting to moisture, no longer absorbs humidity, and withstands conditions that would destroy ordinary aspen or alder within a few seasons. Thermory Classic doors are a direct application of this technology – and it is clear they were designed by people who spend time in a sauna every day, not once a year.
What makes Thermory doors different – and why it matters
The frame of Thermory Classic doors is made from laminated thermowood crafted from aspen or alder – a material that simply does not expand, warp, or crack under constant humidity. The frame depth is 9.2 cm, allowing the door frame to fit even thicker walls. The front side is covered with a 3 mm lamella, visually creating the appearance of a solid timber beam – a clean and calm result without visible joints.
The glass is an 8 mm tempered panel – resistant to impacts, temperature shocks, and everyday humid environments. Two variants are available: clear glass for maximum light inside the cabin, or bronze glass for a warmer visual character with pleasant privacy from the outside.
A detail often overlooked with sauna doors: Thermory Classic has no threshold. At first glance it may seem minor, but in reality it is an essential functional choice – air circulates naturally inside the sauna, the lower part of the cabin heats evenly, and you do not end up heating only the air near the ceiling while feeling cold around your feet. The doors open in both directions, allowing installation to adapt to the room layout without the need to order a mirrored version.
Closing is ensured by an adjustable roller latch that fits into a groove in the wooden handle. The glass does not come into contact with any metal parts and therefore cannot crack due to mechanical tension in the hinges. Hinges are included in the package, as well as the handle – nothing needs to be purchased separately.
Which Thermory Classic models are available?
In the Greus range you will find Thermory Classic doors in three sizes and two frame finishes:
- 70 × 190 cm – the most commonly used size for home saunas. Available with clear or bronze glass, with an aspen or alder frame.
- 70 × 200 cm – a version 10 cm taller for cabins with a standard construction opening height. The same material finish.
- 80 × 200 cm – a wider model for larger openings and commercial use. Bronze glass, thermowood frame.
All models are universal – left or right opening without the need for a special order. Each package includes the door frame, hinges, handle, and roller latch ready for installation.
Finnish sauna, steam bath, or hammam – where is Thermory suitable?
Thermory Classic doors are designed primarily for Finnish saunas and steam baths. Thermowood withstands repeated temperature cycles and the humidity of steam cabins without deformation – something you usually only discover after several seasons with cheaper doors made from untreated wood or aluminum.
For hammams or Turkish baths, where humidity reaches 100% and temperatures are lower but stable, we recommend verifying the specific model and installation conditions – in such environments, the waterproofing of surrounding walls and the frame anchoring method are also important.
